Now when you call 9-1-1 from your Bell Mobility cell phone, emergency operators will be able to send help to your location more efficiently. Giving you piece of mind and safety at your fingertips.
e9-1-1As a leader in the deployment of Enhanced 9-1-1 services, over 85% of Bell Mobility customers now have access to Enhanced 9-1-1 services (e9-1-1)
Enhanced 9-1-1 services allow emergency operators to view your cell phone number with area code, vital information should your call to 9-1-1 be disconnected for any reason, and to also know the location of the cellular tower handling your call which helps us to route your call to the most appropriate emergency response centre
CoverageThe deployment of e9-1-1 is complex because it requires improvements to the capabilities of a number of parties to succeed - 9-1-1 software and hardware providers, wireless companies, landline companies and Emergency Services.
E9-1-1 services are not currently available in the Atlantic Provinces.
But progress is being made.
For example, Bell Mobility has almost completed the rollout of the first phase of Enhanced 911 services, with only 15% of the rollout to go. Bell Mobility and the City of Toronto Emergency Services (Police, EMS & Fire) are also working towards Phase II e9-1-1 trials to further improve Canada's emergency 9-1-1 service. Phase II e9-1-1 will allow for emergency operators to receive a more accurate location of callers with e9-1-1 Ready cell phones using Assisted Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Look here to see if your cell phone is Assisted GPS Ready for e9-1-1 services.
LimitationsAs with all calls from mobile phones, limitations apply to wireless calls to 911. If you are in an area with poor wireless coverage or underground, for example, your call to 911 may be affected or may not be connected.
Assisted GPS technologyAssisted GPS (AGPS) combines the reliability of multiple location technologies -- Global Positioning System (GPS), 1X network triangulation and cell site location-- so that Bell cell phones and wireless PDAs can be accurately located even in the most difficult environments.
In some cell phone user manuals, AGPS is referred to as the LOCATION option. With the exception of 911 services, your location will only be used at your request. Your user manual explains how to disable AGPS for all services but e9-1-1.
CostA $0.75 9-1-1 monthly fee will appear on your bill.
Bell Mobility maintains and continues to improve today's 9-1-1 services. We're also committed to continue our investment in safety by improving e9-1-1 services, so that in the future more precise identification of caller location is available to emergency operators.
